Do Pets Affect Your Chances Of A Quick Property Sale?

Nearly everyone likes a pet, except the person who has arrived to buy your house. Don’t ask me why, but that’s often how it works out. Home sellers who adore their pets, and I include myself here, have a hard time imagining the negative attitudes others feel towards against pets. So, while this might be a bitter pill to swallow, if you want to get the best price for your house, pay attention to how much you might lose with a dog or cat in residence.

Why don’t potential buyers like the resident pet?

  • Nervousness. Pets make some people very uncomfortable. Not everyone had a family pet when growing up, or enjoyed seeing animals. Fur and four legs does not a human make.
  • Fear. Real and irrational. Dogs are not the only creators of fear and apprehension in people. All kinds of silly wives’ tales and superstitions involve cats.
  • Inexperience. The behaviour of your animal cannot be predicted.
  • Other peoples pets are always considered dirty, and by association this gives the impression that your home is likely to be the same.

You won’t like what is going to be suggested but it is important enough to say and will probably be ignored. In order to obtain the top price for your house you have to find another home for your pets for the duration of the sale. Don’t put them in another room like the garage or the shed which is not fair for them. It makes sense to remove them from the home for the process of selling.

Some of the suggestions of dealing with pet could include the following:

  • Try to get someone else to look after Dodger and Jake.
  • Make some enquiries at a kennel or local cattery.
  • Send them on vacation.
