If You Like Dutch Colonials, Try The Amityville Horror House

Trying to buy some prime real estate? How about a three story, six bedroom Dutch Colonial with a gambrel roof? It also has a swimming pool and a boat house right on the water. The house is located in a small sleepy Long Island suburb. The beach is never far away either. It’s going for $ 1.15 million. Oh, and it’s the house where The Amityville Horror took place.

The famous Amityville Horror

Amityville Horror, the book, focuses on the experiences of George Lutz and his wife Kathy Lutz. The couple bought the vacant expansive Dutch Colonial in 1976. The couple learned that the house was where Robert DeFeo Jr, shot and killed his parents and siblings. For a pithy $ 80,000 the Lutzes bought the place, knowing full well why it was so cheap. At that price, you would never have to worry about needing payday loans to keep up with the payments. The house, according to the Lutzes, was either haunted or demon possessed, and they abandoned the home less than a month after moving in.

No business like show business

After the incidents involving the Lutzes took place (allegedly), a book was written about the events. Since then, the accuracy of the book, The Amityville Horror, has come into question. Regardless of the book’s truthfulness, a film was made in 1979 and sequels followed. Ryan Reynolds starred in the 2005 remake. After the Lutzes left, the next owner, James Cromarty and his wife, stayed in the home for more than ten years. Cromarty said that “Nothing weird ever happened, except for people coming by because of the book and the movie.”

Making a killing buying a home

This is something the National Association of Realtors probably won’t tell you, but when a murder takes place at a residence, the bank or loan company holding the mortgage will list it for sale at rock bottom prices. They want to get rid of the home quietly and quickly. You think I’m making this up? See for yourself at HousingWatch.com. You would just have to square yourself with knowing someone was killed in your living room.
