Route 7 is the divider between Potomac Falls and Sterling as you head west from Reston. The Potomac Falls are located north of Leesburg Pike, also known as Route 7 in the area. Although Potomac Falls was initially regarded as a portion of Sterling, its name really took off after the opening of the 20165 post office which was established for the purpose of providing service to the communities of Countryside, Lowes Island, Cascades and Great Falls Chase. Just down the Potomac River to the east, transversing the Fairfax County Late is the Great Falls, where the Potomac Falls, Virginia was consequently named after. Sterling Park was built in the 1960′s and was the first planned community of Loudoun County; centering around it is the Dulles area located south of Leesburg Pike.

About the same time that Potomac Falls started taking off, the area just west along Leesburg Pike, Ashburn, starting a growth spurt of it’s own with the construction of Ashburn Village, Ashburn Farm, Farmwell Hunt and Belmont Country Club. Te large southern swath of Ashburn was named Brambleton when the 20148 post office was constructed; because of this Ashburn became large by early 2000′s. Loudoun Valley Estates and Broadlands are located adjacent to the formal Brambleton subdivision.

The historic Leesburg, Virginia is to the west down route 7 from Ashburn. There are many attractive Bed and Breakfast Inns, Antique Shops and Wineries in Leesburg; it is the county seat as well.

Historic Leesburg has got quite a number of subdivisions in the surrounding area. These have been divided into two, the regions of Lansdowne and Leesburg. Largely enveloping the Lansdowne Resort and Conference Center is the Lansdowne area. Adjacent to the resort are the extremely well manicured Lansdowne and equally impressive River Creek neighborhoods. Potomac Station is located very near these localities. Leesburg is surrounded by these subdivisions: Red Cedar, Tavistock Farms, Exeter, Kincaid Forest, Evergreen Meadows and Stratford. There are very chic homes offered in the neighborhoods like Grenata to the south and Raspberry Falls to the north.

The tranquility of the western part of the country mixes with the noise of Eastern Loudoun County which is located west of Leesburg onroute 7. Between these two, the towns of Round Hille, Purcelville and Hamilton are situated. We have grouped these towns together on our Purcellville page. A lot of equestrian and golf oriented localities are found in this area, like Shenstone Farm and Beacon Hill.

The South Riding area is located just south of Dulles airport. Just west of Chantilly is a whole sprawl of planned communities, such as South Riding and Stone Ridge.
